20 years ago: Big run keys Jazz win in opener

Editor's note: Every Sunday, the Deseret News will take a quick look back into our archives.

It took just one sensational run for the Utah Jazz to put away the Seattle SuperSonics, 112-94, on NBA Opening Night at the Delta Center.

And what a run it was. After a dreary first period, the Jazz embarked on a 20-0 second-quarter spree that left the Sonics dazed and bewildered. During that stretch the Jazz drilled four three-pointers, made four steals and dominated the boards. And they did it all without a single point from Karl Malone, who finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
