Volleyball head coach makes unofficial debut

In January, J.T. Wenger was named UTA’s seventh volleyball head coach after spending the last 10 years as an assistant at Michigan State, University of Colorado Boulder and UCLA.

Wenger said like anybody who has been an assistant coach, he aspired to be a head coach and considered what would be important to him when he could build a staff of his own.

“You figure out the things you aren’t great at and try to surround yourself with people who can help supplement,” he said.

Philosophical alignment regarding how the game is played, how to treat people, and how to act in a professional manner were important to Wenger in terms of hiring his assistants once he was hired.
