UTA Softball closes out peak season

The softball team's peak season has come to an end.

The Mavericks (32-28) fell to Sun Belt Conference foe the University of Louisiana-Monroe 5-0 on Wednesday at the Lamar Softball Complex, ending UTA's run in the National Invitational Softball Championships. It was UTA's first postseason appearance since the 2003 season and the highest wins total since the 2011 season.

Boosted by a leadoff double, Louisiana-Monroe ended its tie at zero in the fourth after some hits in the box pushed three runs across the plate. The Warhawks tallied another two runs to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, making the score 5-0 heading into the final frame.
