UTA Baseball loses to defending national champions

The Mavericks lost a pitching duel in late innings as Coastal Carolina University earned a 4-1 win Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

"They pitched it really well," head coach Darin Thomas said. "Trae [Patterson] did a great job. It was set up for us, but it just didn't work out."

Junior pitcher Patterson started the game for the Mavericks and held the Chanticleers scoreless, allowing seven hits in seven innings.

The Mavericks' offense was stumped by Coastal Carolina's senior pitcher Andrew Beckwith, who allowed five hits and one run in eight innings.

UTA struck first offensively, taking a 1-0 lead when sophomore outfielder Noah Vaughan scored on a throwing error in the seventh inning.
