In Coastal Carolina University's first year in the Sun Belt Conference, the reigning national champions have risen to the near top of the league.
The Chanticleers completed a sweep against UTA with a 5-0 win Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark, leapfrogging the Mavericks in conference standings.
The loss marks the first time the Mavericks were swept in a conference series since March 2016.
Junior pitcher Jakob Hernandez suffered his first UTA career loss, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in six innings pitched.
UTA is now third overall in the conference but still has a hold on the top spot in the west division.
