The Lady Mavericks locked in their first conference win of the season, defeating Appalachian State University 74-63 Thursday at College Park Center.
Five fouls from the Mountaineers paired with 3-pointers from freshman guard Aysia Evans aided the Lady Mavericks to a 18-5 start. Appalachian State attempted to bridge the gap with an 8-0 run, and UTA finished the first quarter with a 10-point advantage.
A layup from sophomore guard Cydni Cole completed a 6-0 Appalachian State run and gave the team its first lead of the night at 26-24. Junior guards Crystal Allen and Cierra Johnson responded with 3-pointers, putting UTA back in front.
