Lady Mavericks surpass Georgia Southern in final quarter

The Lady Mavericks used a 3-point barrage in the second half to deny a Georgia Southern University comeback and earn a 69-60 win Thursday at Hanner Fieldhouse.

UTA led for over 38 minutes, but the Eagles narrowed an 18-point deficit to eight in the fourth quarter. Consecutive fouls from Georgia Southern in the final minutes allowed the Lady Mavericks to stay on top of the Eagles.

Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor. The Eagles bested the Lady Mavericks from beyond the arc, shooting at 46 percent while UTA shot 26 percent.

Junior guards Cierra Johnson and Christina Devers were the team's leading scorers with 14 points each.
