Incoming freshmen are getting in the swing of things before making their mark on the golf program.

“We’re definitely seeing a shift in the guys and the girls,” golf director Stuart Deane said. “They’re coming in, they’re all motivated, they’re working harder.”

Paul Gonzalez, an incoming freshman from Waxahachie High School, competed in tournaments throughout June to prepare for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The tournament will be held July 17-22 at the Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas.

“Knowing Paul and what we recruited him for, he will have the aspirations to go there and win,” Deane said.
