Senior pitcher Kadon Simmons threw seven scoreless innings before giving up his only earned run in the eighth inning, and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs slid by the Mavericks 3-1 in extra innings.
"It's just a difference of one at bat or another," head coach Darin Thomas said. "Hopefully we're going to get that big hit here sooner rather than later."
Both teams were scoreless through the first four innings. Junior right fielder Phil Berthiaume broke the tie with an RBI single, which scored sophomore first baseman Noah Vaughan in the bottom of the fifth.
The Mavericks held on to a 1-0 lead through the next two innings before the Bulldogs tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning.
