USC running back Ronald Jones overcomes his inner turmoil

LOS ANGELES – USC running back Ronald Jones was fretting.

Earlier in the summer, Jones had decided to cut his distinguished dreadlocks. After four-plus years, it was time, he reasoned.

But amid a slow start to his sophomore season in September, regret filled Jones.

“I thought it was my power,” he said of the old locks.

Jones, who set a USC freshman rushing record in 2015, totaled little more than 100 yards during the first four games of this season. The Trojans, meanwhile, were saddled by a 1-3 start.

His mother, Jackie Jones, tried at times to make light of the lost hair.
