Pac-12 Network announces plan to tackle length of football games in 2017

Pace of play and the length of games have been a hot button issue in sports, particularly with baseball threatening to adopt a pitch clock. Now, the Pac-12 is getting in on the act.

During his annual address on Wednesday, Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott announced an effort by the Pac-12 Networks to pilot a plan of action on Tier 3 non-conference games aired on the networks.

The Pac-12 Networks will show fewer commercial breaks, shorten halftime to 15 minutes and “other production techniques” to limit both the number of TV timeouts and their length, to provide a shorter broadcast.
