Construction begins on West Hartford outdoor classroom in honor of 12-year-old Brigid Curtin, who was killed by her twin brother in 2018

The Westmoor Park community Friday morning marked the beginning of construction on an outdoor classroom that will be built in memory of 12-year-old Brigid Curtin, who was killed a year and a half ago.

Brigid’s parents, Tim Curtin and Jane Murphy, said West Hartford’s Westmoor Park was one of their daughter’s favorite places. She would’ve been thrilled to have an outdoor classroom for summer camps and field trips, they said.

“It’s a day of hope, a day of excitement,” Murphy said. “We’re just sorry that [Brigid] won’t be able to see it herself.”

Brigid Curtin is shown here on Martha's Vineyard, where she and her family vacationed each summer.
