UCLA's upset of Bearcats in 2002 was one of its most surprising wins

SACRAMENTO -- The hunger that typifies Cincinnati’s basketball program serves the Bearcats well in underdog situations.

Particularly when you remember what happened in 2002.

Cincinnati was a No. 1 seed that year and got sent to Pittsburgh. A perplexingly erratic UCLA team was seeded No. 8 and went there, too.

They met in the second round and it became one of the most unexpected wins in Bruins’ history. Down by 10 at halftime, UCLA came back to oust the Bearcats in double overtime, 105-101.

Today the roles are reversed as third-seeded UCLA meets sixth-seeded Cincinnati in a Round of 32 game here.
