TALLAHASSEE — UCF’s football team won’t necessarily be declared “national champions” on Florida license plates after all.
A bill that would have created such a plate backing the Knights’ claim to the national football title this year was changed in committee on Monday
Instead of mandating that wording, it now allows state officials to consult with UCF leaders about whether to include that language on the plate.
Under the measure (HB 1359) Florida would sell license plates that tout two out-of-state universities: Auburn and Georgia. Proceeds from the tags would provide scholarships to Florida residents who attend the two schools.
