Echoes of success: An attendance epidemic that’s sweeping across college basketball

At the start of most UAB Women’s Basketball games, Bartow Arena is nearly empty as only 300 fans sit in the vast 8,700-seat stadium.

Attendance at women’s basketball games is a real epidemic for many teams across the country. At UAB alone, there existed an unreal discrepancy between the average number of people at the men’s and women’s games last year. If I gave you a chance to guess the difference in average attendance, you probably would not come close to the actual number.

According to NCAA.org, the men’s team averaged 4,945 people per game last season.
