The first thing that crossed my mind Monday when I learned that former Arkansas football coach and athletic director Frank Broyles died at age 92 is the only place large enough to celebrate his life is Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Because for 56 years, his very being, whether it was his 19 years as football coach, his two years as coach and athletic director, his 31 years as athletic director and finally his six years raising funds for the Razorback Foundation, few people in college history have been solely responsible for shaping an athletic program and emotionally attaching an entire state to it as did John Franklin Broyles.
