TROY — Rachel Rigney Brown came within one out of a perfect game in the second game of Troy’s 8-3, 5-0 doubleheader sweep of Appalachian State on Saturday.
Rigney Brown had no strikeouts but recorded 16 flyball outs for the Trojans (19-29, 7-14 Sun Belt).
Jenny Dodd’s two-out single on a 1-1 pitch down the right-field line in the seventh inning was the only offense for the Mountaineers (12-29, 0-17).
Leadoff hitter Becca Hartley homered, reached base five times, had three RBIs and scored four runs in the two games for Troy.
