The RFU have denied that a television match official overlooked alleged foul play because it had been highlighted by a commentator – but described the incident in the Saracens-Harlequins game last Saturday as ‘regrettable’.
There was up-roar during and after the Premiership fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as TMO Stuart Terheege was over-heard saying he would not review Stephen Lewies’ reckless challenge on the grounded Owen Farrell as it had been raised by Austin Healey.
The ex-England back suggested on TNT Sports that the ugly collision should be reviewed and a mic picked up Terheege saying: ‘The problem I’ve got now is it looks like Austin has instigated it, so I don’t want to talk about it.
