The soon-to-be free agent head coach wasn’t there to be schmoozed by Brendan Shanahan, though, as he avoided the Toronto media and sat near Ken Holland – never conversing with Shanahan.
It’s highly unlikely that Mike Babcock chooses to leave Detroit for Toronto when other more promising destinations are available.
For that same reason we can most likely rule out Todd McLellan as well, who was being courted by Peter Chiarelli in Prague at the World Championships.
It will be hard for Toronto to court a big name coach given the complex rebuild they’re involved in – but that may be a good thing.
