Gary Bettman Wants $500M Franchise Fee For Expansion

The Commissioner of the National Hockey League hinted at a price tag of $500 million dollars as the franchise fee for the next expansion team(s).

Five. Hundred. Million. Dollars.

Woah, Gary, back the train up. Do you even know how much your current teams are worth? You can’t possibly know, otherwise you wouldn’t have dropped a money grenade on league expansion.

In Forbes latest valuations list, the NHL has 11 teams worth $500M or more. That means that 19 of the leagues current 30 teams – or 63.3% of the NHL – are worth less than the suggested franchise fee that Scrooge Bettman thinks he can parlay from a delusional new owner.
