Could Maple Leafs Target Wayne Simmonds?

It is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to get bigger and nastier up front.  In the last few weeks there have been rumors of a possible trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers that would have seen Luke Schenn exchanged for James van Riemsdyk.

Those rumors were quickly squashed when it was reported that van Riemsdyk had suffered a concussion.  However, another player that the Maple Leafs could have interest in is bruising forward Wayne Simmonds.  At 6’2 and183 lbs, and a cap hit of only $1.75 million, he could give Toronto a much different look as he would provide some added size and toughness that the Leafs desperately lack.  He can also contribute offensively (17 goals and 15 assists) in 54 games, and as an added bonus he’s from Toronto.

With the Flyers looking to add a defenseman, the Leafs could dangle Cody Franson and a prospect/draft pick.  If the Flyers insist on Luke Schenn, then the Leafs could expect another asset heading their way.
