As far as measuring sticks go, there are few better in Major League Soccer than Bastian Schweinsteiger. The 33-year-old German midfielder has a list of honours that go on and on: a World Cup crown, a Champions League win, eight Bundesliga titles.
And few in MLS know better than Sebastian Giovinco what Schweinsteiger can do. The Toronto FC striker faced him on a handful of occasions in Europe, both with his former Italian club Juventus and the Italian national team.
“He was one of the best players in that position. I think he brings quality, personality. I think it’s important for the league and also for (those) who play against him,” Giovinco said this week.
