MLS announces season ‘extremely unlikely’ to return in mid-May

TORONTO, Canada—It has been 34 days since Major League Soccer (MLS) first announced that it would be postponing play for 30 days.

Eight days later, on Mar 19, fans received more disappointing news when the league was forced to further suspend action for eight weeks following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation of postponing events of 50 or more people.

Now today, MLS has released another statement which foreshadows more grim times on the horizon for fans eagerly awaiting the return of play.

“Although we hoped to return to play in Mid-May, that is extremely unlikely based on the guidance of federal and local public health authorities,” the league released in a statement.
