Welsh soccer player sentenced to jail time after brutal tackle

Nicholas Williams, a soccer player for Welsh club Cefn Albion, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after a reckless tackle led to an opponent breaking their leg, according to the BBC.

Williams was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Andrew Barlow, who plays for AFC Brynford. Barlow suffered a complete break of his tibia and fibula.

Williams reportedly tackled Barlow out of revenge after a 50-50 call didn’t go his way.

Referee Mark Stokes, who officiated the match, discussed the viciousness of the tackle.

“That challenge was probably the worst one I have seen in my time as a referee,” Stokes said.
