It's that time of year. Daffodils are in bloom, and so is optimism that some horse finally will win racing's first Triple Crown in 37 years.

"I think any horse could win the Triple Crown, and this could be the year,'' Steve Cauthen, the jockey who rode Affirmed to the last Triple Crown in 1978, said Thursday.

To get it done, a horse will have to win the May 2 Kentucky Derby, the May 16 Preakness and the June 6 Belmont Stakes.

In each of those races in 1978, Affirmed won by close margins over rival Alydar.
