Stanley Biwott of Kenya Wins New York City Marathon Men’s Race

Stanley Biwott, 29, of Kenya, took his first major marathon victory on Sunday as a conservative race opened up in the final miles with a searing pace, giving Biwott a victory in the New York City Marathon.

His winning time was 2 hours 10 minutes 34 seconds — 14 seconds ahead of his fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Kamworor, the world cross-country champion. Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia, the champion of the Boston Marathon in 2013 and 2015 and the runner-up last year in New York, took third in 2:12:10.

Wilson Kipsang of Kenya, the defending New York champion and a former world-record holder, took fourth in 2:12:45.
