PARIS — Sesil Karatantcheva was not aware that there was an anniversary for her to commemorate this year at the French Open.
When Karatantcheva was 15, she upset Venus Williams in the third round of a surprising run to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 2005.
“Oh, wow, 10 years — it’s been already 10 years?” Karatantcheva said Tuesday night after upsetting Jelena Jankovic in the first round.
“When you come to the same place every year, it just feels like a moment. I just feel like it was yesterday I was here playing juniors.
