Rio Olympics 2016: Women's gymnastics events, scoring before Friday trials

Gymnastics is a beautiful sport. It’s powerful, yet graceful. It’s dangerous, yet mesmerizing. It’s also very complicated.

The sport itself breaks up into three categories: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline. The most common is artistic gymnastics, which both men and women compete in.

Sticking with the women’s realm of the sport, artistic gymnastics consists of four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. All are competed at a gymnastics arena, which is called a podium.

A common theme throughout each event: The harder the trick, the better, but it has to be executed, not just attempted.
