Redskins make decision on Week 1 starting QB

With Robert Griffin III's return from a concussion still uncertain, the Washington Redskins are moving forward with Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback for Week 1, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.

Griffin won't re-take his post-concussion test until next week, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Redskins hadn't announced any QB decision publicly.

So, barring an unexpected turnaround, it will be Cousins – the 27-year-old former fourth-round draft pick – under center Sept. 13 against the Miami Dolphins.

The Redskins' plans beyond that first game may depend at least in part on how Cousins fares.
