Northern Michigan football player dies hours after morning workouts

Northern Michigan offensive lineman Anthony Herbert, 20, was unable to be resuscitated Tuesday after being found unresponsive in his dorm room.

Herbert, who had participated in a morning workout with the football team, reportedly ate breakfast before returning to his room. Emergency medical technicians were called shortly after he returned and suffered a "medical emergency," according to MLive.com.

"In my brief time with Anthony, I could tell that he was a great young man," said coach Kyle Nystrom in a statement released by the school. "He was well-respected by his coaches and teammates and was a leader on the offensive line.
