NASCAR keeps turning screws on its lug nut rules; when will teams learn?

Before going too far and saying any shade-tree mechanic can lock lug nuts onto a wheel, remember this: NASCAR goes nowhere near a sturdy oak.

And NASCAR tools are a lot more expensive than the set you use, bubba. Seriously, can you afford a $2,500 impact wrench?

That said, it's worth asking, shall we say, the $2,500 question: Why can't the wheel guys get lug nuts tightened to specifications?

Whatever the reason, NASCAR this week nailed the hide of a fourth crew chief to its wall, while also pocketing another $20k fine, for failure to have all five lug nuts tightened to all four wheels of Sprint Cup cars.
