We are focused too much on what is said about the quarterback duel between Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett heading into the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on Saturday.
Watson said he thinks he’s the “best player in the country.” Clemson safety Jadar Johnson said the Tigers have “definitely faced quarterbacks better” than Barrett. That’s where the focus is for the College Football Playoff semifinal between No. 2 Clemson (12-1) and No. 3 Ohio State (11-1).
That’s not where it should be. This is a fantastic quarterback matchup in the College Football Playoff; the best one since Heisman Trophy winners Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston met in the first playoffs semifinal at the 2015 Rose Bowl.
