Former Vanderbilt football player Cory Batey sentenced to 15 years after rape conviction

Former Vanderbilt football player Cory Batey was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday for the on-campus rape of an unconscious woman in 2013.

Batey's 15 years was the minimum sentence for such cases. He was convicted in an April retrial of aggravated rape, facilitation of aggravated rape, two counts of attempted aggravated rape and three counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Given the chance to speak at his sentencing, Batey, 22, apologized to his family, Vanderbilt University and the victim.

"I hope that if not today maybe one day you would find it in your heart to forgive me for any damages I may have caused," he said, via The Tennesseean.
