Boise State to Face the Coach Who Helped Build It Into a Powerhouse

BOISE, Idaho — The words “blue collar” are painted in large block letters along one wall of Boise State’s football weight room. This would seem to be a perfectly appropriate ethos for Boise State’s football program, given that its identity is so closely tied to blue — the color of the Broncos’ quirky playing surface.

But the words may be a bit out of place in what is an extremely well-appointed workout center. Lined with state-of-the-art equipment, the weight room is a key component of Boise State’s 70,000-square-foot, $22 million football complex.

As the coach at Boise State, Chris Petersen often stated a desire for his teams to play blue-collar football.
