AP Top 25: Villanova takes top spot in rankings for first time in program history

Villanova has a national championship to its credit, but until Monday it had never held the top spot in The Associated Press Top 25.

The Wildcats (20-3) had reached the No. 2 spot in the rankings seven times, including after their 1985 NCAA title. They are the sixth team to ascend to No. 1 in a topsy-turvy season, moving up from No. 3 after losses by Oklahoma and North Carolina last week, but voters have wide-ranging opinions about who should be on top.
