AAC is proven coaching hotbed, but it’s time for conference to aim higher

There is no doubt the American Athletic Conference can produce good coaches.

The question isn’t whether they can keep them, it’s whether they can maintain success as a whole with the replacements. The answer might be to go bigger on those replacements.

In the past two days, Baylor hired Temple coach Matt Rhule and Oregon hired South Florida coach Willie Taggart. This comes a few weeks after Texas hired Houston coach Tom Herman and a year after Virginia Tech plucked Justin Fuente from Memphis.

Those are big-time programs coming after the AAC coaches, and with good reason.
