Richard Albero, a Yankee fan from New Jersey, completed his charitable walk from Tampa, Fla., to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday and was greeted by the Yankee players as he touched home plate before they played the Kansas City Royals.
When Albero left Tampa, on March 2, the Yankees were near the beginning of spring training and there were many unanswered questions about the team. Could Alex Rodriguez still play? Would Mark Teixeira’s nagging injuries get the better of him? And who would become the closer?
The team that Albero left behind in Tampa was a little different from the one that greeted him in the Bronx after his 86-day, 1,150-mile journey.
