U.S. Soccer’s Next Generation Set to Kick Off in Under-20 World Cup

Even as FIFA reels from the indictments of some of its top officials, its tournaments continue around the world. Next up in New Zealand is the under-20 World Cup, a proving ground for future stars. And the United States could be a contender.

The player who has American fans most excited is a playmaking midfielder, Gedion Zelalem. Born in Germany, he grew up in Maryland before being spotted by Arsenal at 14. Now 18, he has made a couple of appearances with the senior team and has the potential to be a future United States and Arsenal mainstay.
