The Red Bulls advanced to the quarterfinals of the United States Open Cup on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over the Cosmos before a crowd of 11,442 at Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls erupted in the fourth minute, when Lloyd Sam found Sal Zizzo with a perfect cross to give them a 1-0 lead. The Cosmos countered in the 16th minute with a Lucky Mkosana goal.
The Red Bulls had the better of play for much of the rest of the half before Sacha Kljestan found a streaking Anatole Abang with a corner, and Abang put it away with a fierce header to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 lead.
