Padres 8, Mets 7: After Trade Evaporates, So Does the Mets’ 6-Run Lead

The one moment over the last two days when everything seemed to go the Mets’ way came in the fifth inning on Thursday afternoon. Curtis Granderson smacked a three-run homer, high-fived his teammates in the dugout and then found Wilmer Flores standing next to him. Granderson hugged him and patted him on the back as Flores rested his head on Granderson’s shoulder and smiled.

The night before, all eyes had been on Flores as he wiped tears from his eyes on the field after word had spread, inaccurately, that he had been traded to Milwaukee as part of a deal for center fielder Carlos Gomez.
