The strange path that led Shaun Wright-Phillips to become a member of the Red Bulls involved poor weather in England and a serendipitous meeting in an airport.
Wright-Phillips, the older brother of Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips, had arrived in the United States in early June for the sole purpose of being a best man at Bradley’s wedding on June 12.
“I was expecting to be back on the plane back to the United Kingdom shortly after,” Shaun said in a news conference at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, one day after the Red Bulls signed him in a deal that brought another successful, attack-minded English player to Major League Soccer.
