Luke Adams stood at the free-throw line. The crowd around him was so loud the rim appeared to be shaking. He looked over at his teammate and friend, Andrew Beck, who motioned to his ear. “Turn it off and you won’t hear them,” Beck shouted. Adams reached up to his right ear and popped the cochlear implant off.
