Source: Rangers add Ross on 1-year deal

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent starter Tyson Ross, according to Major League sources. The club has not yet announced the deal.

Ross pitched in just one game for the Padres last season because of a shoulder injury, but the Rangers still pursued him vigorously for the fifth spot in their rotation. It's not yet known if he'll be ready for Opening Day.

Ross was the Padres' Opening Day pitcher in 2016, but he was sidelined the rest of the season with shoulder inflammation. He had thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in October.
