Rangers winter-league report: Former 1st-round pick shows both the good and the bad in Australia

Second baseman Travis Demeritte, selected by the Texas Rangers with the 30th overall pick in the 2013 draft, showed both sides of his offensive game in the opener of the Australian Baseball League championship series on Friday.

Demeritte had a double and three strikeouts in five at-bats for Adelaide in a 7-4 loss at Brisbane, the regular-season champion. The performance mirrored Demeritte's season.

Demeritte had four homers in 11 at-bats during a semifinal series against Canberra. This followed four homers in his final 18 at-bats during the regular season.

Demeritte has been strikeout-prone throughout his career.
