News conference, reportedly about new ballpark, scheduled

ARLINGTON -- The city of Arlington has scheduled a news conference on Friday for an "important economic development" that industry sources said involve a new ballpark for the Rangers.

The facility would have a retractable roof, and according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the ballpark would cost $900 million, split equally between the city and the club. Voters would have to approve any tax dollars used to pay for the facility.

Rangers co-owner Ray Davis and Arlington mayor Jeff Williams are scheduled to hold the press briefing at 1:30 p.m. CT. The ballclub and city have not divulged any more details.
