Could the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies be discussing another July blockbuster?
One of the biggest deals leading up the 2015 deadline was the Rangers’ acquisition of Phillies ace Cole Hamels. A year later, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweets the Rangers have interest in prized Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez.
Morosi cautions that the price for Velasquez, acquired from the Astros last winter in the deal for Ken Giles, would be quite high. The 24-year-old is 8-2 with a 3.34 ERA in 17 starts, striking out 103 batters in 91 2/3 innings.
