The two former infielders - one of them a Hall of Famer - broadcast opinions this week that suggested they had a little issue with the “language barrier” in baseball between foreign-born players and Americans.
On a Philadelphia radio station, Schmidt seemed to criticize former Rangers prospect Odubel Herrera, now one of the core Phillies of the Phuture, for a perceived inability to communicate with teammates in the clubhouse. Later, Remy, on the Boston Red Sox broadcast, said Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka should not be permitted a translator to accompany the pitching coach to the mound to help facilitate communication.
