Things have never been easy for Shaka Smart since being hired as Texas’ basketball coach in 2015.
There have been two first-round NCAA exits to Northern Iowa and Nevada. Texas went 11-22 season in 2016-17 even with NBA lottery pick Jarrett Allen. And the Longhorns lost leading scorer Andrew Jones to a leukemia diagnosis and treatment last season.
Nothing has changed this season either.
Texas confirmed Friday that senior guard Kerwin Roach has been suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Roach was averaging 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists while playing 31 minutes a game.
