Texas freshman TE Reese Leitao, who joined program after pleading guilty to drug charge, suspended two games

FRISCO -- Texas freshman tight end Reese Leitao will be suspended the first two games of the season, coach Tom Herman said.

Leitao, a three-star recruit from Jenks (Okla.) High School, was charged in February with a felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school. The charge - for carrying 20 Xanax pills, $1,300 cash while arrested - was reduced to a misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance May 23 after Leitao pleaded guilty. He agreed to a four-year probation term with Tulsa County prosecutors.

Texas athletic director Mike Perrin allowed Leitao to join the program afterward.
