Sweat named Outland Trophy finalist

DALLAS – No. 7 Texas Football defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat was named a finalist for the 2023 Outland Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced Tuesday. The Outland Trophy is awarded annually the nation's top interior lineman.

A trio of Longhorns have previously won the Outland Trophy (Scott Appleton, 1963; Tommy Nobis, 1965; Brad Shearer, 1977), and four others have been finalists (Dan Neil, 1996; Leonard Davis, 2000; Justin Blalock, 2006; Malcom Brown, 2014).

Sweat has played in all 12 games with seven starts for the Longhorns this season. He has established career highs with 40 tackles, 16 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and four pass breakups, while adding a blocked kick on an Iowa State point after attempt that was scooped up by Austin Jordan and returned 82 yards for a two-point score for Texas.
